From Chaos to Calm: How to Lead with Your Core Values as a Christian Mompreneur

Feeling like you're running on empty, reacting to constant demands without any clear direction? This post reveals how to transition from chaotic to calm by discovering your top five core values and learning to lead with them daily.

If you’re like so many moms I know, you lay your head on the pillow thinking "What the heck did I even do today?"

As mothers, we're bombarded with constant questions, needs, and wants from everyone in our lives nonstop. This endless stream of demands causes us to live in a completely reactive way, leaving our own priorities muddy and our sense of purpose lost in the chaos. We've lost sight of what actually matters most because we're too busy putting out fires and saying yes to everything and everyone.

But what if I told you there's a way to transition from struggling and chaotic to thriving and calm? You can set a new tone for your life and get the clarity you need to lead yourself and your family well. And it all starts with understanding what's truly most important to you and learning to lead with those values.

The Power of Values-Based Living

As Patrick Lencioni wisely said, "If everything is important, then nothing is." This couldn't be more true for mothers who struggle to establish real priorities amidst the constant noise of daily life.

When you understand your core values and learn to lead with them, you create a foundation for intentional living. Instead of reacting to whatever comes your way, you become proactive and peaceful and in control of your days.

Here's your new affirmation to practice this week:

"I design my life around what matters most."

Write it down and post it up somewhere where you can see it consistently. This is your commitment to intention and dedication to creating a new path for yourself.

I know how it feels when every day seems like an uphill battle, like you're running on E 24/7 and just trying to keep up. But together, we are going to go on an amazing transformation where we see life differently, play a different game, and have fun in our motherhood journey.

It’s more than possible, and I’ll guide you the whole way through.

Understanding Where You Are vs. Where You Want to Be

We first want to begin with where you are ultimately heading. It's really hard to hit a target you can't see, so understanding where you desire to go is crucial for your ultimate path.

Before diving into your values, you need to get clear on your current reality and your desired future. Grab your notebook and honestly answer these two questions:

  1. What do I want my daily life to look like?
  2. What does my daily life currently look like?

Be completely honest with yourself here. This transparency is how you'll grow and create lasting change.

Discovering Your Top 5 Values

Your values are the things that are most important to you—not to everyone around you or the people you're trying to please, but to you. This is about crafting your life, not someone else's.

Here's how to identify your core values:

Step 1: Brainstorm and Prioritize

  • List out what matters most to you
  • Narrow it down to your top 5 values
  • Put them in order from 1 (most important) to 5 (still important, but lowest priority)

If you’d like help with this, Download ALIGN, my free audio course and workbook that helps you identify your top 5 values and use them as a guide for your life and future decisions.

Step 2: Define What They Mean to You

Values fall into two categories:

Tangible Values (like health, faith, family, work) are pretty easily understood, but you should still define what they mean to you specifically.

Intrinsic Values (like peace, security, freedom) require deeper exploration. Ask yourself: "What does this mean to me in my daily life?" Peace to you might mean something completely different than peace to me.

Step 3: Make Them Actionable

Once you have your top 5 values, ask yourself:

  1. Am I currently leading my day with these values? (Am I fulfilling some aspect of them every single day?)
  2. If not, how can I live each of these values daily?

Putting Values into Action: Real Examples

Let me share a couple of examples to help you see how this works:

Health: "I am currently focusing on nutrition, so I make sure I get in my daily shake and walk six times a week."

Faith: "I read my Bible every morning to start my day. I'm working toward reading the Bible cover to cover because the closer I get to God, the more peace and freedom I feel in my life."

When you start leading with intention, amazing things become possible. You'll find time for what truly matters while still managing the inevitable 15% chaos that comes with motherhood.

The Three Key Reminders About Your Values

  1. These are the things you're going to say YES to—focus on what's actually most important to you, not everyone else
  2. These are the aspects you put at the forefront of your life and day
  3. These are the things you create goals around for your future self

The Difference Between Busy and Productive

There's a huge difference between being busy and being productive. Values-based living creates the meaningful productivity we all crave. Rather than depleting your energy by saying yes to everything, you'll find that aligning with your values actually fuels you to accomplish more throughout your day.

When every action is in direct alignment with your personal values, it fills your cup instead of draining it.

Your Path Forward

Remember, this transformation from chaos to calm doesn't happen overnight, but it is absolutely achievable. Aim for 85% success and 15% chaos management—perfection isn't the goal, alignment is.

When you're living in alignment with your values, that 15% chaos feels like tiny bumps on a speeding highway rather than major roadblocks that derail your entire day.
