Christian Business Leadership: 3 Ways to Lead Your Business Well
There's a difference between owning a business and actually leading one. Discover three essential areas of leadership that will help you follow through on what matters, set healthy boundaries, and lead your business with confidence rooted in God.
Christian Business Leadership: 3 Ways to Lead Your Business Well
You are a leader.
Maybe you own a business, serve clients, and have big dreams for what God is calling you to build, but you don't quite see yourself as a leader yet.
I want that to change.
Because there's a difference between owning a business and actually leading one. And as Christian women, we have a responsibility to lead what God has entrusted to us well.
This path isn't always easy, but we have God as our CEO!
I want you to lead in confidence for the Kingdom and know whose you are so you can walk in authority.
Because it's one thing to know you're called to lead. It's another to actually show up and lead well. Let's look at three areas where that leadership needs to show up in your business.

What Does It Mean to Lead Your Business Well?
As a business owner, your business can be the platform for the Gospel, and that means you will be hit with spiritual warfare. The enemy will attempt to fill you with doubt, avoidance, overwhelm, insecurities, and the desire to retreat.
The enemy wants you to feel alone so you are not emboldened to walk in your already-granted authority. I want you to call out anytime you are feeling these things. It's natural for these things to come up, but it is NOT serving us, and we are called to rebuke them in the name of Jesus.
With my clients, I help them call out where they are avoiding or holding back in order to move forward with confidence. You are becoming who God is calling you to be in order to execute the goals and dreams for the Kingdom.
The time for passive business owners is OVER.
I'm calling on all Christian creators and business builders to own their business with authority and tenacity. This doesn't mean working 24/7; it means building with a purpose and walking in that confidently.
Leaders know and do, and that means being effective in three main areas of your business:
- Good follow-through and communication
- Good boundaries
- Confidence to get the job done
1. Follow Through on What Matters
Ecclesiastes teaches us a lot about how we should operate in the unknown.
Ecclesiastes 11:4 states:
"He who observes the wind will not sow, and he who regards the clouds will not reap."
This means if you are waiting for perfect, risk-free conditions in order to accomplish something, you will accomplish nothing.
As a business owner, risk is part of the game. It's how we grow and further the Gospel. Think of the risk each of Jesus's disciples faced when they were spreading the Good News. This walk isn't for the faint of heart.
The goal is to move into action over hesitation, and that means moving forward even when we don't have perfect schedules filled with ample space and no interruptions.
Do it messy. Create discipline around certain areas of your life in order to be a woman who follows through and is relentless about the most important things in her life.
This is that diligent flow I discussed in my episode on stewarding your time.
You cannot be someone who is scared of rejection because that fear is the work of the enemy. Follow-through means you do what you set out to do, no matter the response. You are honoring what God called you to do; you are not working for man.
Hebrews 10:24–25 says:
"And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near."
Don't neglect the follow-through. Be open, communicative, and set out to serve.
Your Leadership Challenge: Follow Through
My challenge to you this week is to write down all the names you can think of that you need to serve.
How can your business serve them well?
Maybe you had a conversation with them at some point and it just fell off. Follow up.
Maybe you've been thinking of reaching out to them, but you are scared. Follow through.
Maybe you've been overthinking what to say to your ideal client. Post it.
Your success won't come from hoping, wishing, and praying people will come to you. They need to be informed of you and how you can best serve them.
2. Protect What God Has Entrusted to You
A good business owner does not give all of herself away. She protects her time with the Lord and the relationships He blessed her with to steward well.
Your business can be a living testament to the good boundaries you instill in it, or it can be the thing you resent most. You get to choose, but I do promise you, when you look at your business as a place to serve and have good boundaries with it, you will come to love what God blessed you with so much more.
Proverbs 4:23 calls us to:
"Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life."
This starts with good boundaries.
Are you honoring your time with God first?
Are you caring for yourself?
Are you putting strict boundaries regarding work time and doing focused work when it's time?
Busy is not the same as being productive. I say this a lot, but the goal with our business is to sit down, complete the focused work, and then move on. Stop living in your business 24/7; it's robbing you of all the other blessings God is giving you.
Remember, being a good leader doesn't mean giving your business every available hour. It means knowing what needs your attention, doing that work well, and protecting the time and energy needed for everything else God has entrusted to you.
Our society loves people who look busy, but as Christian entrepreneurs, we are called to be different.
Romans 12:2 says:
"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind."
We know that we are unified in Christ, He loves us, and our work is just one of the forms of our worship.
Your Leadership Challenge: Set Boundaries
My challenge for you this week is to actually set business hours to honor. Write down what you need to do and when you will do it, and honor that.
Working 24/7 is something we are not called to do. We have a lot of other areas in our life that command our love and attention.
3. Lead with Confidence Rooted in God
Jeremiah 29:11 says:
"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope."
If God knows the plans He has for you, why are you worried? I'm being serious.
It's time to actually put your trust in Him and build your business with confidence. If God called you to this, He will not let you down. He's calling you to steward well and leave the rest up to Him.
He will bring you the words.
He will bring you the ideas.
He will bring you the clients to serve.
You won't instantly gain the confidence in your business, but it starts with creating a process, following through with that process, and continuing to be open to learning and growing.
Confidence is built by doing.
Every time you take action, follow through on a commitment, or make a decision rooted in faith instead of fear, you're growing in your ability to lead your business well.
Your Leadership Challenge: Get Clear on Your Calling
Answer these questions today to determine your direction so you can develop your business and build your confidence:
- What is God actually calling me to build?
- Who is God calling me to serve?
- How can I serve them well?
These are the people you begin speaking to in order to serve the Kingdom.
For me, I made a huge pivot three years ago when I decided to work exclusively with Christian mompreneurs. But that pivot was huge in my purpose and obedience for the Lord. The path won't always seem clear, but when we walk in obedience, He helps build our confidence.
Become the Leader God Is Calling You to Be
Remember: A leader has good communication and follows through, a leader has good boundaries with her time and energy, and a good leader has confidence in the Lord to do what she has been called to do.
A leader follows through on what matters, protects what God has entrusted to her, and moves forward with confidence rooted in Him.
